Eyewear Protection Levels Explained
Not all safety eyewear is created equal. Different standards are designed for different environments — from everyday shop use to extreme ballistic impact.
Our eyewear is tested against recognized safety standards so you can choose the level of protection that matches how and where you’ll use it.
- ANSI Z87.1 – Basic impact protection
- ANSI Z87.1+ – High-impact rated protection
- MIL-PRF-32432– Military-grade ballistic protection
ANSI Z87.1 – Standard Safety Protection
ANSI Z87.1 is the most common safety eyewear standard in the U.S. It ensures eyewear provides reliable protection from everyday hazards.
Ideal for:
- Workshops and job sites
- Industrial and maintenance work
- General safety and eye protection
- What it protects against:
- Minor impacts
- Flying debris and particles
- Basic lens durability and clarity
ANSI Z87.1+ – High-Impact Rated
Eyewear marked Z87.1+ has passed more demanding impact tests than standard Z87.1 eyewear.
This rating means the lenses and frames can withstand significantly higher-speed impacts without cracking, shattering, or dislodging.
Ideal for:
- Shooting sports and range use
- High-risk work environments
- Fast-moving debris and fragments
Protection level:
- High-velocity impact resistance
- Improved lens retention
- Greater frame durability
Ballistic Rated – MIL-PRF-32432
Ballistic-rated eyewear meets the U.S. military’s most demanding eye protection standard. This level of protection goes far beyond civilian safety requirements.
These products are tested to stop high-speed fragments traveling at extreme velocities — similar to shrapnel or ricochet debris.
Ideal for:
- Tactical and military use
- Law enforcement and training
- Serious shooters seeking maximum protection
Why ballistic matters:
- Exceeds ANSI Z87.1+ standards
- Designed to stop fragment-level impacts
- Maximum lens retention under extreme force
